💻 Developers Roll Back from Opus 5.5 to Opus 4.8 Due to New Claude Code Refusals
Anthropic added two sentences to the Claude Code prompt to prevent the recreation of third-party video games in accordance with its usage policy. According to developer reports, Opus 5.5 is now refusing legitimate tasks, such as analyzing and reverse-engineering one's own code, as well as testing drivers. Addy Osmani from Anthropic confirmed on X that the prompt edit was intentional; the company did not clarify whether the refusals are linked to the gaming limit or cyber filters.
🌍 This case highlighted the vulnerability of hosted AI agents: a provider can change model behavior via prompts or filters without touching your code, and a working process can break in a single day.
👤 If you are using Claude Code in production, maintain a rollback option to the older model version (Opus 4.8) and proactively understand which tasks fall under the new restrictions.
